Covid-19 situation room and research center have appealed to the federal government to make arrangements for final year students in all schools to resume and take their final exams .
Chairman of the research Centre, Dr Onwubuya John Abraham made the appeal Wednesday during the unveiling of the research Centre in Abuja.
The Covid -19 Situation room and research Centre is a think- tank research based organization made up of concerned civil society and faith based Organisation, institutions, academics and individuals who are united in the purpose of kicking Coronavirus out of Nigeria .
The chairman listed the categories of final year students to include SS3 and JSS students, primary six pupils and final year students of tertiary institutions.
According to him ,more efforts should be dedicated to ensuring that schools are not kept shut for longer than necessary.
While appreciating the e- learning initiative being undertaken by some institutions, Abraham pointed out that Nigeria’s environment does not have what it takes to make a success of the initiative.
He stated “ We wish to join our voices to other concerned Nigerians in appealing to the federal government to make immediate arrangements for final year students in all our schools and educational institutions to resume and take their final exams . These include SS3 and JSS students , primary six pupils and final year students of tertiary institutions.
The chairman also called on the government to lift the ban on inter- state movements saying it has failed as commuters are still traveling everyday .
He also appealed that markets should not be restricted to only some days in the week advising that they can open daily to reduce crowds that besiege the markets .
“ It is our opinion that the lockdown has been helpful, especially the restrictions on which observed in the inter-state movement. Accordingly, we suggests that efforts should be connected more on management of cases , improved testing and sensitization,” he added .
